Louisiana, Mississippi, and Alabama all are advancing bills that "define sex" to exclude transgender people from any legal recognition of their gender.
trans people were way better off before they became such a loud voice in politics. they have essentially shot themselves in the foot trying to be the center of attention.
The whole reason they became more visible in politics is because they were tired of being killed and nobody cared.
So no, they weren’t “better off before”. They were (and still are) subject to unimaginable violence, the difference is NOW, it doesn’t happen in silence.
Just because ass backwards shithole states run by conservatives are taking steps backwards, doesn’t mean that other states haven’t taken steps forwards. I say this as a trans person who has been out for a decade. I’ve seen significant progress in my own state and on online communities. The people who are coming out now have much better resources than I ever did (and I’m happy for that!). When I first came out, the ONLY information about trans people was found on crossdressing fetish sites, and insurance wouldn’t even humor transition related care.
No reason for this, except to be cruel.

Yeah, marginalized people should just stay in the margins, where they belong.
meh, i’m not really concerned either way
Yeah, privilege is a hell of a drug.
focus on the common enemy, southern conservatives.
Says the guy victim-blaming instead of doing that.
