Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis signed a bill Wednesday that bans homeless people from setting up tents or sleeping in public spaces, as he compared the issue of homelessness to the chaos of spring break.
So let me get this straight, if I, living in Florida, ever found a fire ant free spot to lay down and relax in a park, I’ll be harassed by cops now? Or is this just for the “shittier” neighborhoods? What about people at the beach?
The current governor and Florida legislature are a bunch of mean spirited bigoted buffoons.
I think most people know laws like this are worded specifically to be selectively enforced so whichever group is their 30 min hate target of the month is subjugated and fucked with for being an outsider. You can’t legislate away homelessness unless forcing vacant owners to honor section 8 & affordable housing vouchers.
Only if you look homeless. They don’t care about you they just want to harass the already disadvantaged.
No, it’s worse. If you go sunbathing on the beach and fall asleep, you’re a criminal.
GL finding a fire ant free spot.
Right? lol

Probably would depend on the color of your skin…
This is just another attempt to harass people they don’t like.
This is for the ‘good’ neighborhoods. They’ll be where enforcement happens, and it will be selective.
Ban extreme capitalism.
How much does DeSantis pay from his own paycheck for his housing?
Yeah that’ll solve it.
That’ll stop them! Maybe now they’ll simply get off the streets and buy a house!
It’s big brain time
Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis signed a bill Wednesday that bans homeless people from existing so better off Floridans don’t have to see the poors so much
Fixed
Reason # 4097 to not visit Florida ever ever ever.
So much for those relaxing afternoon picnics in the park, I guess.
Just a massive gift to the for-profit prison industry at a time when evictions are at all time high.
They gotta see that line go up somehow.
So next steps are to round up the homeless and our them into “work camps” of some sort? I’ve seen this somewhere…
Great, so they get free housing and food in prison, right?
What the actual hell??? Last week, I had clients across from Naples to Bradenton, so i woke up at 4am and started doing jobs. Made it up to Bradenton at 10am and the last client wanted to wait til 2pm to do the job
As a result i chilled, enjoyed a nice lunch, checked out the boardwalk, and after 1.5 hrs of enjoying the place, I entered my car exhausted, set an alarm to 1:30pm, and fell asleep.
You’re telling me that THIS NAP I TOOK WOULD BE ILLEGAL?!?!?!
You need to arrest that baby over there right now. It’s sleeping IN PUBLIC!!!
Yes, and I have been hassled for it (not in Florida). Small town cops are the worst by far. I imagine if you have a nice car you might slip by though.
Or they can arrest you for loitering or some b.s. and impound the car. Then maybe let you go with no charges after 48 hours, but youe car is still impounded and you pay 2,000 to get it out or cops can seize and auction it off. Welcome to the USA
In this case, actually no. The bill exempts sleeping in a vehicle provided the vehicle has valid registration/plates and is legally parked.
Some municipalities may charge you with operating a vehicle while intoxicated. The reason is that you clearly had the means to operate the vehicle and you did not seem to be alert while observed.
Floridians don’t even have the freedom to sleep where they want. What kind of big government shit it this?
I wonder if this means political officials can be sued and jailed for allowing homelessness.
Until they get every homeless person off the streets, they will be fined daily and if after 90 days they will be locked up?
Reason #* I’m glad I don’t live in america
In my youth during the 80s, 90s I’ve always dreamed of moving to the U.S. now I’d rather stay where I am.
