      That’s the most amazing thing.

After the 2016 election there was a panel discussion; all the creators of the top political TV shows were invited. West Wing, House of Cards, Veep, Scandal, and others. Every creator said the same thing. If they’d had a character say that they “liked soldiers who didn’t get captured” the netowrks and advertisers would have demanded that character be despised by all Americans.

I’ve seen houses with the black POW/MIA flag and a Trump poster, because they can live in two realities at once.

There’s a house in my neighborhood flying both of those flags and the Confederate flag. It’s mind boggling.

He could say, on fox “news” and outright say he’ll eliminate the VA and all veteran benefits entirely because “if you get injured it’s your own damn fault for being a terrible soldier”…and they’d still simp for their orange turd

Do you think if he got elected, due to being shot, he would give himself a Purple Heart? Or maybe a Medal of Honor?

I have no doubt he could with a straight face argue that running for Commander in Chief is essentially being in the military.

Firstly, lol. Of course to everything in that article. Can’t believe I didn’t already just assume that was true.

Second, I meant awarded one. That reads like the guy just symbolically gave the medal to Trump, but Trump isn’t entitled to wear it. Anyone could have a replica Purple Heart, but without the citation it’s just a gauche keepsake. It would be illegal for him to wear it—not that that would stop him or result in anyone telling him not to.

But it doesn’t matter. Just idle speculation about exactly how big an asshole he is. Always shockingly so, but just not always in the ways I might predict.

Don’t make the mistake of applying logic where there is none.

To conservatism, logic might as well be a quantum superposition based entirely upon the contents on your feefees.

It absolutely amazes me that people give him a free pass for this shit. Same with his remarks at Belleau Wood.

“Why should I go to that cemetery? It’s filled with losers.” In a separate conversation on the same trip, Trump referred to the more than 1,800 marines who lost their lives at Belleau Wood as “suckers” for getting killed.

Being Donald Trump is so awesome, though. If you say something bone-headed like this, no matter how it it is recorded, all you have to do is say “I never said that!” and poof … it never happened! Cool, huh?

Maybe unpopular but i agree. Broken clock, bla bla. I wonder how many of those dead soldiers actually needed to die and how many were just killed by pointless proxy and oil wars.

Not really. He might not have meant it that way, but i prefer people being alive to receive their awards.

Honoring soldiers (dead or alive) might have its place, but certainly civilian achievements are just better for everyone in general, usually more productive and dont involve having to kill people. Soldiers are literally just doing their jobs, that they chose to do and get paid for.

In the case of the US the things they do and the warcrimes they commit usually do not benefit civilian society and especially not the country that they served in.

You do know that the military draft was a thing up until around 1970?

You remind of a anecdote. There was a famous writer who got out of Europe and made it America circa 1935. He then declared that he was a pacifist. Someone else pointed out that it’s easy to be a pacifist when you have an ocean and the US Navy between you and Hitler.

An unfathomable number of international crimes has been commited by the US military since 1970 so that point is completely irrelevant.

Equating WW2 with the many financial/colonial wars of the last few decades is embarrassing. These have been entirely preventable wars and any US citizen should be outraged by the pointless killing of their parents, siblings and children. Yet their deaths are celebrated as “heroic” when in fact the lives of those people were thrown away just so that some rich assholes could buy more yachts. Deep down they know this, but to admit as much would ruin their little world view bubble of USA greatness.

I’ve protested pretty much every war the US has been involved in in my life time.

What annoys me about you is that you’re acting like you’re actually doing something important and meaningful by denying the dead and wounded the honors they’ve earned.

Talk about the fat cats all you want, but try to realize that it’s only luck that kept you from being one of those soldiers.

I mean yeah arguing with strangers on the internet is kinda pointless and most of the time has no real world effect, but here we all are…

What im annoyed by is that it sometimes feels like people are proud of these deaths. Any person deserves respect and their death should be honored. But the reason for their death is something that should not be celebrated. Their cause of death is something bad not something good. Its not a hero thing its a victim thing. Soldiers are victims of their incapable leaders, unable to prevent them from having to go to war.

The fact that so many veterans will still vote for that orange sack of shit, thinking that he supports them, is astounding. Trump has made it clear multiple times that he loathes veterans. Not even just a lack of support or empty gestures, he actually hates them, he actually thinks veterans are morons, losers, and suckers.

And for those who vote for him, I leave any inferences up to the reader.

Trump and his running mate, Sen. JD Vance, R-Ohio, have criticized the Democratic vice presidential nominee, Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz, for his military record and have sought to make reverence for military service an issue in the election. Vance, who is also a veteran, has criticized Walz for opting to retire after more than 20 years in the National Guard but before his unit was set to be deployed to Iraq. Walz has defended his military service.

Well they pooched it up at the end there, but it’s interesting that NBC even attempted to contextualize it in the larger sense of their attacks on Walz. That’s unusually bold of them, I began to wonder if they thought theywere smelling blood. Until they tried neutering/both-sidesing it with “Walz has defended his military service[, though]”.
