Melania Trump has barely been seen on the campaign trail this year. One of the few times she has appeared at a political event, she’s received a six-figure paycheck – a highly unusual move for the spouse of a candidate.

"The former first lady spoke at two political fundraisers for the Log Cabin Republicans this year, and she was paid $237,500 for an April event, according to former President Donald Trump’s latest financial disclosure form. The payment was listed as a “speaking engagement.” "

How the fuck are there still Log Cabin Republicans?

I smell bullshit. No way a bunch of Gay Republicans paid her a quarter million.

And that is a weirdly specific number.

Peter Thiel is gay. And Republican. He would certainly have the funds to pay Melania if he wanted.

I wouldn’t be surprised if the Trump campaign pays Trump himself to speak at campaign events

Not saying 6 figures isn’t an insane amount of money for a speaking fee, but Obama was getting $400,000 in 2017. Obama is arguably a better speaker, and Melania doesn’t get as many gigs as Obama did (there was a period in 2017 when he did 3 events within a couple months, which caused quite a bit of outrage on the right about his speaking fee), but 6 figures isn’t all that unusual for former Presidents/First Ladies (Michelle’s is reportedly around $200,000).

I don’t think there is anything particularly wrong with that, I just wish she was more discerning when selecting her clientele.

Paid more to appear than most make in a year. How conservative.

Meh. One of the big problems with Hillary was her speaking fees.

Why? Trump’s speaking fees even then were 4x higher and he hadn’t done shit to talk about.

Well, but think about the value created. They needed to demonstrate their candidate is in a healthy, stable, supportive marriage and definitely not banging some neo-nazi side chick. Her appearance was basically priceless, surprised she didn’t ask for more.
