As far as I know, she is the only Democrat challenging Biden for the nomination.

I support her challenge, but she needs to tell us how she would deal with republicans. I’m not dumb enough to think we can just promise single payer health care, for instance, without a plan for how to actually make that happen when we don’t have the seats or the Supreme Court.

I remember Obama. Hope and promises aren’t good enough. What’s your plan for combating obstruction? Biden had a plan for that, and was able to actually deliver some stuff.

Til I hear something workable on that, I’m going with the experienced guy.

Oh look, someone with no chance to win taking the opportunity to get some publicity so she can sell books.

Look, I get it. Biden’s age has been exposed as a much bigger deal than it was made out to be by the party. I’m kind of pissed, to be honest, that I spent so much time supporting someone who doesn’t have the energy to stay up longer than my kids do.

But I also understand that most Lemmy users are much farther to the left than the general electorate. Please understand Marianne Williamson (or any Progressive candidate not named Bernie) has zero shot of winning a general election, where they let everyone vote, even the Proud Boys. Her only political experience is in running for office and losing. Her only notable accomplishment was writing a book that Oprah liked. Put her up against a ham sandwich registered as a Republican , and the sandwich wins.

Please stick to the candidates with actual political experience, who have a change of winning. There’s too much at stake. Take your principled progressive stand when the alternative isn’t fascism.

She started a charity for people with AIDS in the ‘80s called Project Angel Food (which is still running today), and a lot of her most ardent supporters today are gay men who remember Project Angel Food.

Ok, fine, founding that charity is a good thing, and may shore up her standing with the vital demographic of 60+ yr old queer men. But it doesn’t qualify her for the job, and that constituency is not gonna push her over the line.

She’s been a guest many times on Fox News, while channels like CNN and MSNBC won’t have her on.

Fox News has her on because it is all kayfabe, and she is the designated heel. She is the type of Democrat that Fox wants their viewers to think all Democrats are like.

The other channels dont have her on because they understand she is not a serious contender.

Look, I’m not trying to antagonize you. But since you see yourself as being grounded in pragmatic realpolitik (while dismissing me as an impractical idealist), I’m gonna be frank with you.

Sooner or later, you’re going to realize that Biden can’t win.

Maybe it’ll be one week before the election, when the Republicans are running non-stop ads showing clips from Biden’s terrible debate performance, where he talks about immigrant women being raped by their sisters (yes, he said that) before trailing off as if he himself is confused by what he’s saying.

Or maybe it will be sooner when it’s still possible to replace Biden with a different candidate.

Oh, I realize it. Look at my post history. Here is what I have been pushing:

            • Biden is simply not up to the task. Not just the campaign, but the office as well. The sooner he realizes it, the better off we all are.

            • There is a built-in understudy who has spent the last 4 years doing nothing but waiting to take over just in case the old guy croaks. One who automatically gains the benefit of incumbency the moment Biden realizes it, and who has the most legitimate claim to the ticket once he backs out .

            • That idea infuriates the progressives here, who thinks she’s just as bad as everyone else.

Moderate Democrats are like vegetables. They’re not the most appetizing thing on the menu, but they give you the nutrients to fight fascism. And if you don’t get enough fiber in your diet, you end up full of shit. Please, progressives, eat your peas!

Oh, I would love for Kamala Harris to take over from Biden. (Mostly because she has given some very weak signals of being less pro-Israel than Biden.)

But Kamala hasn’t thrown her hat in the ring. Marianne Williamson has.
