Actually they are remarkably consistent in their principles. It’s just that they know their principles are disgusting, so they claim other principles as a cover.

It’s really quite simple:

Conservatism consists of exactly one proposition, to wit: There must be in-groups whom the law protects but does not bind, alongside out-groups whom the law binds but does not protect.

Their goals are twofold: to make this a reality, and make sure they are in the first group.

Which just means they want the tariffs to happen. Perhaps a billionaire promised to buy him New Orleans or something?

That and, in my opinion, the constant villainizing of firearms, to the point that many on the left are outright afraid of guns, or so disgusted with them that they’d rather eat rotten food than own one.

Well, that and constantly telling people that polite protests off in a corner are the only way to affect change. Those were often the same voice.

Of course constantly threatening to take away people’s stuff is going to get a person to vote for the guy saying he won’t take away people’s stuff. But the way those right-wing gun-nuts turned it into identity politics and single-issue voting is totally on them.

That’s what they want, though. They (the rich leaders) can always go elsewhere for medical care.

Their constituents, on the other hand, suffer the full brunt of it, and so end up poor, uneducated, with even minor illnesses causing major issues. So they are constantly too busy trying to survive to fight back, and too poorly educated to realize they should.

THE SAME AS FOR EVERYONE IN THE LEGAL SYSTEM YOU ASS

If they’re in court, they deserve, and are required by law, to have proper representation!

He’s still staying firmly in the 44-46% range, where he’s been since he was elected. The needle movements have been so small there’s a good chance they’re just rounding errors.

Biden was at 33% at one point. Harry Truman managed to hit 22%. Nixon was at 23% when he left office.

All this ‘Trump’s ratings went down half a point! The honeymoon is over! He’s the worst president ever!’ is absolute bullshit, and I’m tired of it. It’s designed to make us on the left feel like people agree with us. Probably so we’ll complacently wait for everyone to agree to help us get him out of office.

Almost half the country is still thrilled with what Trump is doing. We are charging headlong into fascism with a good chunk of the country cheering it on. And those cheering masses are not going to ‘wake up’ and change our minds about it.

And yet his approval rating is holding steady.

Those who would give up essential Liberty, to purchase a little temporary Safety, deserve neither Liberty nor Safety.

Those kids in the 60s treating their new black classmates like shit, the white teens pouring drinks over black teens doing soda-counter sit-ins, the young white couple that’s all smiles as they attend a lynching… they didn’t just poof out of existence when the Civil and Voting Rights Acts were passed. It’s that gosh-darn problem with facts having a liberal bias again.

I first saw it as ‘coop’ and immediately thought, ‘hell yes, I’d support a community-owned coop, but only if there were lots of fluffy chickens and a 24/7 camera on them’.

Then I realized what you really meant. Which I’m also not opposed to, if it was set up well.

Although, I bet if those racist assholes took DNA tests many of them would find they did have some African-American blood, especially if they were from the South.

There used to be decent republicans in office; I’m old enough to remember some of them. Our former state treasurer was pretty awesome, for example. Sadly, even his daughter has been bit by the looney republican bug. So now we have a democrat in that position.
