So people want him to (1) believe that the Catholic faith is essential for eternal salvation but also (2) not care whether or not his wife is Catholic? That wouldn’t make any sense. Of course any Catholic who cares about his loved ones is going to hope that they convert to Catholicism.
No one thinks he believes #1. Like most Republicans, he’s very obviously not a true believer or he’d be acting differently regarding doing good for people, not just waving the Bible around when he does evil. Two actual Popes have said what he’s involved in is wrong.
Hence “join Christianity” instead of “convert.” It’s about being in the right club to these people.

I mean to be fair she looks completely ok with a government rounding up immigrants or anyone slightly fair skinned really and deport them without any due process.
